Kaka attended his first medical at Real Madrid yesterday [click here for more]. He was then unveiled in front of thousands of fans and press at the Bernabeu in a Number 8 jersey.
He said : “When I spoke to the president he showed us his sporting project, and it influenced my decision a lot,” explained Kaka, who had attracted the interest of other clubs, including wealthy English outfits Chelsea and Manchester City. He’s a winner and everything he wants is with this in mind.
“I asked him if he could do everything that he said, and he has shown that he can. It’s a great privilege to form part of great teams. I’ve been fortunate to play with great players, and I’m now going to continue doing the same.”
“My experience in football has told me that talent alone is not enough,” said Kaka, who will be aiming to take Madrid past the last-16 stage of the Champions League for the first time in six years next season. I’ve met players with a lot of talent who have not been successful, and others with less talent who have been champions.
“It’s something else to have a team of players with talent who sacrifice themselves to achieve the same aim.”
Kaka was awarded the Golden Ball as best player of the Confederations Cup tournament on Sunday after winning the most votes in a poll of accredited journalists organized by FIFA.
The vote was taken before Sunday’s final in which Brazil defeated the United States 3-2, with striker Luis Fabiano scoring two goals to take his tournament tally to five. However Kaka was also voted man of the match by the FIFA Technical Study Group.
‘He had a tremendous influence on the game and was extremely effective on both sides of the pitch,’ group member Abdel Moneim Hussein of Sudan said. ‘His attacking capabilities helped Brazil to reach a new level. On top of that he is also an honest player who never complains. His behaviour is always exemplary and he is the perfect player in that respect too.’
Tim Howard of the United States won the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper. Kaka follows previous Brazilian winners of the award in Denilson (1997), Ronaldinho (1999) and Adriano (2005).
Brazil defeated the USA 3-2 to officially win the 2009 Confederations Cup Title.
Kaka is expected to be unveiled by Real Madrid next Tuesday in a presentation ceremony at the Santiago Bernabeu. A huge party has been planned by the club and his number will also be presented. Kaka’s arrival is expected immediately after Brazil’s final game against the USA tomorrow evening.
Anyway, we all know Kaka’s a nice man and he spoke about England’s chances at the 2010 World Cup.
“First we have to see who gets there because, for instance, Portugal are struggling to qualify,” he said. “But I can say the most important national teams at the moment are Spain, Argentina, Italy, France and England.”
Kaka added: “I think England are playing very well under Capello. “England have a very, very good group of players.
“Of course we know now in football that just talent is not enough. But I think England can have a very good World Cup.”
So Brazil managed a narrow 1-0 victory over South Africa yesterday thanks to a late goal by Dani Alves – a brilliant one by the way. Unfortunately for Kaka, he didn’t so well in the match, wasting chances and being marked and controlled by the South African defenders. Brazil will play the USA in the finals on Sunday!
Here’s a photo of Kaka meeting South African fans yesterday! He’s loving it at the moment – everything from the people to the training sessions and Brazil’s sightseeing tours. In fact, his closest friends in the squad are Robinho and Elano. They’re always together after training and talking when the team goes out on sightseeing tours (see below).
Brazil play South Africa later today, so be sure to catch it!
That’s a pretty creative poster, don’t you think? Props to this Kakazete!
Anyway, Brazil defeated the USA 3-0 a few hours ago thanks to goals from Felipe Melo, Robinho and Maicon. The players were visibly improved from the first game (against Egypt) and will play against Italy in the next match.
“For us it’s important to win all the time, for Brazil to win all the time,” said Kaka. “Spain is in a good moment, Italy is the actual World Cup winner, so we have a good challenge here.”
See that “L” shaped hand gesture? It’s Kaka’s tribute to his dear son, Luca!
After scoring two goals in yesterday’s game against Egypt, Kaka was happy to dedicate the squad’s 4-3 win to Little Luca at home, who celebrated his 1st birthday recently. Brazil will meet USA on Thursday.
